Village Council
In 1836 Erastus Patterson, his wife Zeruah, and their five children joined a caravan of covered wagons from Vermont heading west. Stopping for the night on the wooded hill that is today called Lloyd Park, the Pattersons were enchanted with the area and decided to settle. They built a tavern, referred to today as the Patterson Tavern, for travelers along the Green Bay Trail from Fort Dearborn, Chicago to Fort Howard, Wisconsin. Around this time Simon Doyle builds a log cabin near present-day Centennial Park. Winnetka’s first wedding takes place in the cabin when Michael Welch marries Elizabeth Ouilmette.
All meetings of the Winnetka Village Council are held in compliance with the requirements of the Open Meetings Act, which includes giving proper notice, posting agendas, maintaining accurate minutes and making all final decisions in public.
