Survey Results

The 2011 Winnetka Caucus Council survey was conducted from August 27 through September 14, 2011.  The survey itself is a highly collaborative effort with input coming from approximately 50 Caucus Council members.  It also contains insight and suggestions from each of the village boards.  The outcome of the survey was used to define the framework for the 2011 Platform, which will be used by the village boards to set policy and direction on key topics in the coming year.

More About the Survey

Every voting-age resident of the Village of Winnetka is considered a member of the Winnetka Caucus.  Established in 1915, the Caucus assures a nonpartisan form of government for our Village in which every voter has a voice.  As a Caucus member, residents can serve our community in several important ways:

• Participate in the Annual Caucus Survey (click here » to see what Suzy Halpin of the Winnetka Current has to say about completing the annual survey);

• Attend the Annual Spring and Winter Town Meetings; and

• Serve on the Caucus Council, a 64-person body that identifies candidates for public office, oversees our governing boards, and conducts the Annual Survey.

It is hoped that at least one member in every household in Winnetka will take the time to complete the Survey.  Your answers will be used to formulate this year’s Caucus Platform that guides our elected officials and boards.  Your participation is essential to develop a Platform with the broadest community consensus possible.

The Survey is offered primarily online, without a mass mailing of paper surveys to every household.  An electronic survey offers several important advantages: we can broaden the scope; use more sophisticated tools to analyze the data and opinions collected; obtain more accurate results by eliminating the manual input of responses; and save the money previously spent on the costly printing and mailing of paper surveys.

There are two major challenges.  First, not everyone is connected to the Internet or cares to use it.  So, we will make a paper survey available to any resident who needs or wants one.  However, everyone is strongly encouraged to complete the survey electronically, if at all possible, in order to secure the advantages of a paperless survey.  Secondly, an electronic survey requires your Caucus Council to invest in the technology necessary to make this new system as simple as possible, but with appropriate safeguards to prevent manipulation and abuse.

Unique Survey Code

The first question on the Survey asks for your Unique Survey Code, the random six (6) character alphanumerical code at the top of this page.  This question is mandatory and designed to ensure that each Survey submission is legitimate.  We will only tabulate Surveys with a valid input.  Up to two voting-age residents from each household may complete the Surveys; we will discard additional submitted Surveys.

Survey Privacy Policy

The Caucus Council strives to maintain the anonymity of Survey respondents and keeps the identity of any respondent, if known, confidential.  Although your Unique Survey Code is associated with your street address, we will treat it is as CONFIDENTIAL, safeguard it, and only use it to confirm that the Survey is valid.  We will not share your name, street address and Unique Code with any company, organization, or individual outside of the Caucus Council, except for the company conducting the electronic Survey, and it is bound by this Privacy Policy.
